Volunteer

I love working with the horses and seeing the great progress children make week after week.

Kathleen, Volunteer

Volunteers play a very important role at AWH, and we wouldn’t be as successful as we are today without them. We have more than 300 volunteers each year from all parts of Los Angeles County, many of which return to us on a regular basis.

Something Fun for Everyone

Whether you’re a horse lover, passionate about helping children, or simply want to help us out, we’ve got you covered! Some important tasks we need your help with include:

  • Side walking/spotting during lessons
  • Leading horses during lessons
  • Grooming horses
  • Cleaning stalls
  • Landscaping/gardening
  • General ranch work
  • Assisting with office work

Getting Started

You may volunteer at any location on any day we have lessons. In the event of inclement weather, please call the main AWH office to confirm lessons will be taught that day.

We ask that all volunteers pre-register before attending any session. Please use the corresponding link to register at the location of your choice.

VOLUNTEERS MUST:

Be 12 years of age or older for general volunteer work

Fill out the liability release.

Read the Volunteer Manual.

A few notes before arriving:
— Please make sure to wear closed toe shoes, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves.
— We ask that you wash your hands when you arrive.
— We recommend bringing your own water.
— If it has been more than a year since you have volunteered, please complete a new liability release form. You can complete online at the link at the bottom of the page, or just above this box.

If you are showing symptoms of Covid (or a cold or flu), have tested positive for Covid, or have been exposed to someone positive for Covid, you may not return to lessons or volunteering until you/child:
— are at least 5 days past onset of symptoms/exposure (onset of symptoms counts as day zero)
— mild symptoms have resolved or are improving
— have been fever free for at least 24 hours (without use of a fever reducing medication)
